“We feel upset that your family have been unfairly targeted and subjected to emotional abuse and physical violence. We are angered by the negative and malicious reporting by media outlets scrutinizing your actions,” the fake letter read.
The fake letter then went further and says that “We want you to know that you are doing a fantastic job in keeping the community safe under extremely testing conditions, and you have our full support and utmost respect for exhibiting conspicuous gallantry and bravery in the executing on your duties.”
The fake“letter of support” comes as demonstrations in Hong Kong entered its 12 week.
In an official statement, a spokesperson from WA Police have responded.
“The Western Australia Police Force has been made aware of social media posts that have published a letter of support for Hong Kong Police Officers,” the spokesperson said.
“The anonymous author of this letter claims to speak as a former officer on behalf of other serving and former officers, and has supplied two shoulder patches that are no longer used by the WA Police Force.”
“The WA Police Force wishes to clearly state that this letter is not from the WA Police Force. It was sent without the knowledge, consent or authority of the agency.”
“While it is understood police officers will generally be interested in any policing matters, it is never the practice of the WA Police Force to comment on political matters, in particular those occurring outside its jurisdiction.”
