The last recruitment for Transperth Railcar drivers is now open, with new employees being among the first to drive trains for the METRONET Forrestfield Airport Link.
With only four classes of 15 students over two years, the recruitment process is highly competitive, with Transperth drivers being some of the most highly trained in Australia.
Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti, said these new drivers will take the front seat in witnessing the transperth METRONET transformation.
“It’s an exciting time to be involved in Perth’s public transport network and a unique opportunity to see the growth and expansion of our rail lines first hand,” she said.
Successful applicants will obtain a Certificate IV in Train Drving, after completing 11 weeks of classroom learning, including the theory behind driving railcars, electrical safety, customer service, signalling and communications.
Then another 14 weeks of on the job training is done with a driver trainer, including sessions in a custom built train simulator at Claisebrook station.
All training is provided by the Public Transport Authority, with applicants coming from all walks of life and not needing a background in the rail industry.
Applications close 9am on August 30th.
