Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Roger Cook unveiled plans for a $5m expansion of the Peel Health Campus emergency department (ED) to improve patient flow, privacy and comfort.
The expansion includes a new fast track triage area, new holding bays designed for more privacy, reconfiguration of the existing triage area to improve flow, privacy and comfort, redesign of the ED waiting room, and addition of seven beds to the short stay unit.
Conceptual planning and design for the upgrade has already received in principle approval from the state Licensing and Accreditation Regulatory Unit.
It is estimated that the project will be open to tender in September 2019, with construction commencing early February 2020, and to be completed August 2020. The ED will remain open throughout construction.
“Our significant expansion and refurbishment projects at our hospitals across WA help improve patient flow and care, ensure our hospitals continue to meet patient needs and create jobs through construction and works,” said Premier Mark McGowan.
The $5m upgrade is in addition to another $4.4m of state government investment to improve other areas of the Peel Health Campus.
