Apple’s New iPhone a “Big Leap Forward”

Apple has unveiled its new iPhone the company describes as “the biggest leap forward since the original”.

The technology giant held its annual keynote presentation at the company’s new Cupertino campus in California, revealing its immediate technological future.

Mr Cook revealed two new iPhone 8 models, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus but the biggest announcement was details about the new iPhone X (pronounced “10”).

Also announced was its new Apple 4G Watch and 4K streaming on Apple TV.

“It is only fitting that we are here in this theatre on this place to reveal a product that will set the tone for the next decade,” chief executive officer Tim Cook said of its iPhone X.

The iPhone X will feature an edge-to-edge screen with a new Super Retina Display containing the highest-pixel density in the phone’s history.

There will no longer be a home button and TouchID on the phone, replaced with a facial recognition sensor unlock the screen.

Users will also need to tap the screen to wake up the device.

Marketing vice president Phil Schiller said it was an innovation in phone security.

“This is the future of how we unlock our smartphones and protect our personal information,” he said.

It will also possess a glass front and back with a surgical-grade stainless steel band around the edges.

The phone’s cameras will also get an upgrade with 12 megapixels and larger, faster sensors, a new colour filter and deeper pixels.

However, the biggest change has been to the phone’s battery life. The iPhone X will provide two hours more charge than the iPhone 7.

“All this performance comes with a hit to battery life, so it’s important to tell you that we’ve increased it,” he said.

The phone’s charger cables will also be gone as well with the new model designed to charge wirelessly through its charging dock Airpower.

Apple has also launched the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as its yearly update.

The two phones will be faster models than its predecessors with a new A11 Bionic chip, making it 30 per cent faster.

They will be installed with an upgraded camera with an Apple-designed image signal processor, allowing for faster low light auto focus, improved pixel processing and noise reduction.

It will also be able to shoot 4K 60 frames per second and 1080p 240 frames per second in slow motion.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will also be made for wireless charging like the iPhone X.

The iPhone X will be available for pre-order on October 27 while the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will also be available for pre-order September 15.
