A man has been charged after crashing his car in an attempting to evade police in a chase.
The 31-year-old Embleton man was allegedly speeding in a Holden Commodore wagon on Garratt Road in Bayswater behind a police vehicle just after 1pm on Wednesday.
He turned the Commodore onto Stone Street resulting in police executing a U-turn to conduct a traffic stop of the car, which was sighted turning back onto Garratt Road from Stone Street.
Police activated their emergency lights and sirens but the driver did not stop and accelerated along Garratt Road into Whatley Crescent, First Avenue and Guildford Road.
It is alleged that the man drove the vehicle onto the incorrect side of the Guildford Road and swerved to miss the police vehicle before crashing into a traffic light control at the intersection of Guildford Road and Whatley Crescent in Mount Lawley.
Police further allege that the man fled the crash scene by running across Guildford Road, jumping the rear fence of a home on Ebsworth Street in Mount Lawley.
He was arrested a short time later sitting on the front porch of another home on Ebsworth Street.
The man was charged with reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, failing to comply with a direction to stop, failing to stop, no authority to drive, possessing a prohibited weapon and breach of bail.
