Inaugural WA Gourmet Escape to showcase three food and wine hot spots

The newly announced inaugural Western Australian Gourmet Escape will take place in early November across three locations, including the Swan Valley, Perth and Margaret River.

A range of new exciting culinary experiences have been confirmed for the 10 day event, with a star list of chefs, creatives, sommeliers, activists, business owners and brands all in attendance.

In particular, Marco Pierre White; the youngest chef ever to be awarded three Michelin stars will be present for a “Wine and Sign” event, offering visitors a chance to meet their culinary idol.

A WA Gourmet Escape Spokesperson said the event will discuss, promote, and celebrate the food, drink, and hospitality industries.

“Tourism and hospitality is so important to this State, and last year alone the economic impact of the event bought in $11.5 million dollars and we hope to replicate that and keep bringing people back to this brilliant place,” she said.

Premier Mark McGowan said the WA Gourmet Escape is another key initiative in the State Government and Tourism WA’s plan to create jobs, boost the local economy and attract both interstate and overseas visitors.

“It will be a drawcard for people to visit one, two or all three of the event’s locations and be part of this newly expanded culinary festival which enables local businesses to showcase their produce,”

“The lengthened time period and added locations are designed to attract more visitors from interstate and overseas, helping to boost WA’s economy,” he said.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said the offering of three locations this year allows more opportunities to experience WA’s outstanding produce, while fraternising with world-class chefs and winemakers.

He continued: “Gourmet Feast in the Valley will play to the Swan Valley’s rustic charm, celebrating the region’s rich history and bountiful produce, while the Perth events will highlight how far our city has come over the past few years, transforming in to a vibrant and bustling foodie hub,”

“This year’s Margaret River program builds on what was already a hugely successful culinary event, and continues to showcase the region that’s recently been named by Lonely Planet as the best destination in the Asia Pacific,”

Mr Papalia said he looks forward to this event continuing to grow into the future and proving WA is truly a world class culinary destination.
