Former WA Liberal Leader & Former Treasurer Mike Nahan has announced that he will not re-contest the upcoming State Election in 2021.
In an announcement on his social media page, Dr Nahan says he has considered the views of this supporters “very carefully and respectfully” up to the last minute before making up his mind.
However, he expressed his confidence at the current Liberal members, as they seek to nominate as a candidate for Riverton.
“It has been an honour and privilege to serve the people of WA both in government and in opposition for 12 years,” he said.
“But, happily, there are many ways to be of service and I hope to continue as best as I can. I will leave with fondest memories of m time in Riverton, of the many people whose lives I have come to be part of in some small way.”
“I thank the people of Riverton most sincerely for having me, for our journey together and my vest best wishes are with them.”
Dr Nahan was elected as the Liberal State MP for Riverton since 2008, he was promoted as the Treasurer in 2014 following Troy Buswell’s resignation.
After the election defeat in March 2017, Dr Nahan was elected unopposed as the Liberal Opposition Leader.
He stepped down as leader this year after Liza Harvey replaced in June 2019.
