One Dead After Melbourne CBD Rampage

At least one dead and two people injured after they were stabbed by a man during a random attack in Melbourne CBD.

Police have shot the alleged attacker, he later died in hospital.

The incident happened in Melbourne CBD at around 4:30PM this afternoon, 3 people were stabbed by a perpetrator who’ve set alight a ute near the Swanston Street and Bourke Street intersection.

Police have shot the man after he attempted to attack officers with a knife, the confrontation was captured on camera and spread on to social media.

Victorian Police Superintendent David Clayton has made a statement to the media and said the investigations are ongoing.

“As they (police officers) got out of the car they were confronted by a male brandishing a knife and threatening them. At the same time, passers by were calling out that members of the public had been stabbed,” Superintendent Clayton said.

“Police shot the male in the chest, and he is now in a critical condition and guarded at hospital.”

“Three people have been stabbed, unfortunately one is deceased at the scene. Two other victims are currently in hospital.”

“The bomb response unit have condoned off the area, the MFB have extinguished the vehicle fire. The bomb response units are now making the scene safe.”

“Police not looking for any other offenders at this stage.”
