Police seeking dash cam footage after hatchback hot pursuit

Police are calling for the public to assist them with their enquiries after a high speed chase involving a blue Mazda hatchback through the suburbs south of Perth.

When police activated their lights and sirens to stop the car around noon on Shenton Avenue in Joondalup, the vehicle performed a u-turn and accelerated onto the Mitchell freeway heading south.

The car sped through Mounts bay road, Canning Highway, Manning Road and streets around the area, before the driver abandoned the car on Goss Avenue in Manning a short time later.

The driver fled the scene on foot and was arrested by police nearby.

The driver, a 31-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with: “Driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation)”; “Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police”; “Possess a Prohibited Drug (Cannabis)”; “No authority to drive (never held)”; and “Possessed any drug paraphernalia in or on which there was a prohibited drug or plant.”

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Joondalup Magistrates Court today, Friday 22 May 2020.

Police are calling on the public to provide any evidence they may have of the incident.
