WA Police Drones To Patrol And Broadcast Covid-19 Announcements

WA Police will be using drones (or Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) to broadcast public service announcement during the Covid-19 enforcement period.

These announcements will be made in public areas including café strips, beaches and parks, aiming at groups of people who don’t obey social distancing and mass gathering rules.

Flashing lights and sirens similar to Police cars have been added to the drones, to ensure high visibility from the ground.

The drones have a capability of broadcasting messages up to 1 kilometer range, with rapid deployment capability to public areas when required.

Police say the drones can help to improve communications when needed, instead of relying on officers patrolling on foot.

“The drones will allow the WA Police Force to continue to reinforce the serious nature of the environment we are in,” a spokesman said.

“The drones will also assist in increasing the safety of police officers, reducing the potential exposure to COVID-19 carriers.”
