Thick Black Smoke In South Guildford As DFES Fights Industrial Fire

A recycling plant in South Guildford is up in flames this afternoon, sending thick black smoke into the air.

Its understood the Department Of Fire & Emergency has sent out 130 personel to deal with the blaze.

Parts of Hyne Road has been closed as DFES monitors the air quality in the area.

At this stage, it’s not known whether the smoke is toxic or not but locals said the air stinks like burning plastic.

“As a precautionary measure people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke or fumes with doors and windows closed. Air conditioners should be switched off,” the alert reads.

The smoke cloud can be seen as far away as Bassendean.
