A new video surfaced showing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wearing “brown face” make up for a third time, in a white shirt, town jeans and sticking out his tongue.
Mr Trudeau’s Liberal Party verified that the video was genuine. With Canada being just a month out from an election, this scandal could do some serious damage.
Mr Trudeau has already been in hot water for a yearbook photo in which he wore brown face make up at a costume party with an Arabian Nights theme, while he was still a teacher. Mr Trudeau has already apologised and begged for forgiveness for being racially offensive. Mr Trudeau admitted to reports that he had also donned the dark skin make up while performing in a talent show.
“I didn’t understand how hurtful this is to people who live with discrimination every single day,” said Mr Trudeau, who acknowledged that his privilege as the white son of former Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, had come with a “blind spot”.
A Liberal Party spokeswoman said the new footage was from the early 1990s, which means Mr Trudeau was in his teens or early 20s when the video was shot.
