US President Donald trump tweeted an attack against former US ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, while she was in the middle of testifying in the House of Representatives for his impeachment probe.
Ms Yovanovitch complained that she was being intimidated as a result.
As Ms Yovanovitch testified about her abrupt firing from her post in Ukraine following an alleged smear campaign led by Mr Trump’s personal attorney, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, Mr Trump tweeted: “Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch went turned bad.”
House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff addressed reporters during a break in the hearing, and called the incident “witness intimidation in real-time by the President of United States”.
Ken Starr, who served as special prosecutor during President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, commented on Fox News that Mr Trump’s tweet showed “extraordinarily poor judgement”.
