WA Police officers are set to be recognised for their dedication in duty, with the Western Australia Police Force opening nominations for officers.
The WA Police Excellence Awards are now open to recognise police officers and teams who demonstrate exceptional dedication to serving people in the state.
WA Police said police officers played a vital role to keep the WA community safe and it was important to recognise them and their work.
The Awards are judged by a panel comprising of senior police and community representatives according to criteria including excellence in a policing role, the core WA Police Force values of duty, teamwork, integrity and care and nominations raising public confidence in policing.
In 2019, WA Police received 136 nominations for both the individual and police team categories with nominations from members of the public.
The 2019 team winner was the Derby Police Station, recognised for their community spirit and commitment to keeping the town safe.
Meanwhile, the individual winner was Sergeant Shelley Marklew from South Hedland Police Station for increasing school attendance and reducing family violence in South Hedland by introducing new initiatives.
The winner of the individual aware will receive a $5,000 prize, while the two finalists will each receive a $1,000 prize.
The winning team will receive a $5,000 prize and the two finalists will receive a $1,000 prize a spent on team development.
