Fremantle Markets Opened Again As WA Winning Against Covid-19.

Fremantle Markets have opened their doors again after closing during the Corona Virus pandemic.

Fremantle Mayor, Brad Petitt, said it’s great to be back and see so many people embracing the re-opening.

“In many ways the Fremantle Markets are so iconic. When the markets are open, Fremantle buzzes!” he said.

Mr Petit said having the markets closed for the last few months has been really challenging, not just for market stall operators, but for everybody.

There are no restrictions on how many people can visit, however social distancing is encouraged with a one person per two square metre rule is to be upheld.

“I think of one the good things about it is its a big space, people can spread out, and you can still get all this amazing produce right here in the heart of Fremantle,” commented Mr Petitt.

As Stage 5 restrictions were pushed back to a tentative August 1st, the markets will remain open as they currently are, with the market operating safely and abiding by current restrictions.

“While you can’t cram in as much as you normally would, it’s still a really nice atmosphere here,”

“It feels like a glimpse of how Fremantle can recover post covid, but ultimately there’s a long way to go on that yet…” he said.
